1 · Model
Start with a palette from the model’s colours. Choose one GLB, or select an OBJ, its MTL and texture images together.
New imports scale to this height, keeping their proportions. Clear to keep the source size. AI models often have no useful print scale.
OBJ / GLB import options
The model palette starts with at least four colours, within your printer’s filament limit, and keeps a higher count if selected. To change it, adjust the count in Colours and click “Use model colours”. Colours are approximate; choose matching physical filaments before printing.
Accepts up to 3 million source triangles. Reduction changes the mesh and can soften small details. Texture seams and material boundaries are protected; if the budget cannot be reached, choose Fine or simplify the source first. Your original file stays unchanged.
Static, opaque models with base colour textures or vertex colours. PNG, JPEG and WebP textures are resized to a working copy of at most 4096 px per edge; very fine image details may soften.
2 · Style
Manual Paint
Brush, lasso and surface fill with editable colour regions. Use filament 1 as the base coat, or the colours from a textured import.
Drag to orbit. Choose a tool to select triangles.
Brush and lasso select visible triangles. Fill follows connected surfaces within the angle from your first click. Mirror uses the model’s centre and axes; inspect both sides.
Grow and shrink follow one triangle ring, including surfaces out of view.
Saved regions
Later regions cover earlier ones. Lock protects a region from edits and new selections. Hidden regions are excluded from export.
Simplify texture lighting · Alpha
Reduce smooth brightness variation in coloured areas using your filaments. Neutral black, white and grey details and saved regions are preserved. Real colour gradients can resemble lighting: inspect both sides before applying.
Uses imported colours as the base coat. Runs locally; apply to save as editable regions.
Colour regions from a photo
Name your regions first (coat, boots, face). Suggestions send this photo and region names to Claude using your API key from Save / Load Settings. API charges apply. Review the filament choices before applying.
Printability overlay
Estimates tiny colour islands and narrow regions on the painted surface. This is a geometric guide; check actual toolpaths in your slicer.
Right-click drag on the model to aim · left-click to orbit
3 · Colours
Use colours I own
Choose available colours from your Spool Studio stock.
You choose what to share in Spool Studio. Stock stays in this tab until you clear it or reload.
Applies colour swatches to the model. Check material profiles in your slicer. Available reels include refills; stock is not reserved.

Project
Saves the model together with its exact paint — colours, style, AI part colours and every sweep/touch-up — as one .strata file. Reopen it to pick up exactly where you left off, no re-loading the STL.
Save / Load Settings
Settings are the look only (no model). They persist in this browser and can be exported as a file.
Opening the link reproduces your exact look — colours, style, direction and every slider. The model itself isn't included.
Clears your remembered settings (colours, style, printer) and reloads the starter look.
Bring-your-own-key: stored only in your browser and sent straight to api.anthropic.com — Strata has no server. Get a key at console.anthropic.com. Typical cost is a fraction of a cent per describe.
Exceeds the selected printer’s build volume. Set a smaller height before exporting; allow space for supports and the prime tower.
Send this model and its preview to match colours with your filament collection.
